Hon. Bernard Ahiafor is a lawmaker in the Parliament of Ghana. He is a distinguished legal practitioner, governance expert and statesman with over two decades of cross-sectoral experience in law, insurance, financial services and public policy.
He is an alumnus of the University of Ghana, Legon, where he earned a BA (Hons) in Law and Political Science, followed by a qualification as a Barrister and Solicitor at the Ghana Law School.
Hon. Ahiafor has consistently demonstrated a strong dedication to professional growth through the pursuit of various specialist certifications and training programmes which include a Certificate in Claims Investigation and Communication Skills from the Ghana Insurance College, a Diploma in Applied Insurance Studies, a Professional Certificate in Legislative Drafting from the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (UK), and a Certificate in Good Governance for Effective Public Service Delivery and Poverty Alleviation from CBN International (UAE).
He currently serves as the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana and chairs critical committees such as the Appointments Committee, the Privileges and Immunities Committee, and the Private Member’s Bills and Motions Committee.
With a strong track record in legal and corporate leadership, Hon. Ahiafor has held senior roles across the legal and insurance sectors, including serving as Legal and Administrative Manager at UniCredit Ghana Ltd., and subsequently as Legal, Claims, and Administrative Manager at Star Assurance Company Ltd. He continues to serve as the Managing Partner of Ahiafor & Associates, a leading legal firm in Ghana
Beyond his professional and political achievements, Hon. Ahiafor has demonstrated exceptional leadership and service throughout his academic journey. He served as Senior Prefect at Abor Secondary School, Project Monitor at Keta Secondary School, Electoral Commissioner of Akuafo Hall, and Deputy Electoral Commissioner of the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council. These early leadership roles helped shape his enduring dedication to public service and civic responsibility.
Since entering Parliament in 2013, he has been an influential figure in national policy, legislative reform, and legal oversight. His leadership, depth of knowledge, and broad institutional experience uniquely position him to steer the strategic vision of SIC as Board Chairman.
